3. What happens before production
The pre-production stretch is the part people underestimate most.
Structural design depends on having the actual products, or accurate production samples, in hand. Sampling, when a project calls for it, means building a sample, reviewing it and sometimes adjusting it. Artwork has to be applied to the approved structure, and finishes and materials confirmed. If products or merchandise are being sourced, they run on their own schedules alongside all of this.
None of that is wasted time. It's what makes production predictable. But it has to be part of the plan from day one.

Sometimes. It depends on the structure, the materials and finishes, whether anything needs to be sourced and the quantity.
A compressed schedule usually means making trade-offs: a simpler structure, fewer specialty finishes, materials that are readily available or fewer rounds of sampling. It can also add cost. What's possible varies from project to project, which is why the most useful thing you can do is share your date as early as you know it.
